Yooo. We arrived in Byron Bay on monday and it’s great. Best beach weather so far. I’m sorry I’m not showing any of my pictures but I can’t be asked to sit in front of some computer while the sun is shining outside like it is, so y’all have to wait until I get back to Perth to be drowned in pictures.
Thursday is Australia’s Day and hopefully some great fireworks and parties in Brisbane. cya

Howdy folks, howisitgoin’?!?! We’re in Newcastle where we spend one and a half days chilling out on the beach and in nightclubs later. The weather is awesome. Kim went kite surfing, I played heaps of beach volleyball and hit several rocks after I jumped the ocean. No worries, no serious injuries so far *g*… the girls playing beach volleyball were more attractive than the ocean anyway!!
For the first time all camping areas were booked out so we spend 2 nights at some backpackers. It was pretty nice to actually sleep in a more or less bed after all the camping, I’m really looking forward to my bed in Perth when I get back there!
Tomorrow we continue our drive north. We plan to be in Brisbane by Australia’s Day (Jan. 26th). I’ll keep you informed!

It rained the whole week, great. Today the sun is out again but now we’re about to drive to the mountains. We’ve seen all kinds of stuff in Sydney by wandering around in rain jackets. I can’t believe most Internet Cafes use Internet Explorer and I can’t believe that stupid prog is unable to upload text via JAVA Script… stupid thingie!
By the way, I just found out that Richard (classmate from highschool) was on a german TV Show (twice). “Da issa wieder am feixen, ne!…. weiter so!!!”

Yo, I hate this M$ Internet Explorer crap!!! I just spend 10 minutes to write you guys a nice review of the last week and what happened, the damn thing crashed and lost the text, I cannot believe it. I’ll write it in Notepad now and try to upload it when I’m done.
—> get a Mac!!!
Ok I’ll summarize what I’ve written earlier:
From Melbourne we drove to Albury where we watched “Fun with Dick and Jane” for instance. Great movie, Jim Carey just rulzzz. After that we went 200m further to a nice nightclub, Most smaller australian cities have everything within a very small area, which is great.
After that we had the pleasure of climbing australia’s highest mountain. The whole hike took 5 hours so we spend the night in the mountains.
The next day we got to Canberra (the australian capitol, for those who don’t have any clue whatsoever) where we spend 2 full days visiting capitol hill, the war memorial and the national museum + more stuff. Nice city. Pretty small for a capitol but that makes it very bearable, just like Perth. (+ a fantastic genpool of girls, which needs to be mentioned!!).
Right now I’m in Ulladulla, what a name!! We were hoping to spend some quality time on one of the nice beaches around, but the weather in the east is not as constantly good as in the west. It’s pretty cloudy - “grey” - feels like home.
The plan:
- Pick up Simon tomorrow (flying into Sydney) and spending some days in
- Go to the blue mountains west of Sydney?!?!
- Do more stuff in the area
- Hang out some more on some beaches
- Work our Way up the coast to Brisbane where Kim is gonna fly back to Perth
- Simon and me will drive up north a bit further and then go inland to the real outback!
- Alice Springs, Olgas, McDonald Range
- Stuart Highway down south
- back to the west….
stay tuned for updates guys!!!

Well, I’m on vacation for 3 weeks now and I still haven’t done any “major” travelling in Australia, it’s about time now. The plan (so far):
Kim and I will drive from here south to Esperance and from there along the south coast to Adelaide, where we might spend some time at some friends of his, maybe stay during new years eve.
Go to Melbourne and Canberra (see all kinds of stuff in between)
Go to Sydney and meet Simon there (he’ll gett there by train)
Drive up the east coast to Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns
Head back southwest to Alice Springs
Go back home to Perth and spend some more time on the Southcoast
Well, it’s going to be a very long drive :) but I figure, we’re only going to do this once and if we would fly instead we would miss a lot of things in between airports. At least for me part what one should do in Australia is driving through the desert. That is exactly what I’m going to do.
We’re working on a surprise at the moment. If we manage to finish our little GPS project in time you will be able to track us live via satellite *g*. More about that gadget soon.

Yeah!!! I managed to pass all my exams! I must say, I was definitely not the most enthusiastic student last semester and the exam period (7 exams in a row with no time in between) drove me crazy. Lucky me!
Until friday I have to decide which courses to undertake next semester. If I manage to get everything accepted that I did last semester I won’t have much compulsory stuff left next year, so I can pick some other interesting stuff. Maybe I can get some Business classes accepted back home, that’d be great.

As you might have heard, there were some riots going on in Sydney last weekend. Apparently a lot of alcohol was involved which inspired me to tell you about the australian drinking habits.
First of all Australians do drink more than people back home do. That is because they drink during the week as well. Germans generally drink a lot on the weekends but not as much during the week. I don’t recall any BBQ at the physics department back home, especially nothing with beer during working hours. This by all means does not imply that people at uni are drunk, because they’re not. It’s just an observation. I’m also very sure that no german university cafeteria serves beer, at least I’m not aware of that.

Ok, without any excuse I kept you waiting more than 2 weeks now, sorry about that. Where do I start:
Rottnest Island is one of Perh’s most popular recreation areas. The island (10km long)is only a 25min trip away from Fremantle Harbour by ferry (50bucks). As soon as you approach the island, the water becomes far clearer than it is along the continental coastline, just look at the pictures and you’ll know what I mean. On the island itself there are no private vehicles allowed, so everybody brings either a bike or rents one there.
Rotto, as it’s called here got it’s name from some dutch sailors. They called it Rat-nest. I didn’t see any rat around though, instead the island is full of little animals called Quokkas (see pic) (they’re marsupiums like kangaroos).
Rottnest is great for snorkeling and for sunday afternoon walks. If you want to stay for several days (the last ferry leaves at 4pm) you can rent one of many houses. Hm…. I don’t want to say anything else, just look at the pictures, will ya?!?
Go check them out! Rottnest Photo Album

YES, finally!! You cannot imagine how great I feel after all this is done! After the last exam (Modern Optics) yesterday at 2 we had a nice BBQ and some drinks on the rooftop of the physics building. Some of the now official “physicists” went to steves (one of the major pubs around) later. I have some photos of that and another party that I will put up during the next days.
This morning I drove Jim, an american I got to know to during the past 4 month, to the airport. He’s going to visit a friend in Singapur. As usual, he felt kind of sad to leave Perth. I am incredibly happy that I decided to stay for one year right away, I just feel like I’ve settled in now. It’s great!! One of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
I’m going to Rottnest island until tomorrow, gonna share some nice impressions sunday evening, come and check them out!

After the first week of studying and two exams I really enjoyed an afternoon at beautiful cottesloe beach yesterday. The water is becoming warmer everyday and now even the australians don’t need a wetsuit anymore (… those girls!!). This was actually before the BBQ but I posted those pictures yesterday since some people really wanted to look at them. The beach pics are in the Photo Album now as well! Check it out and envy the people living here!!!

After a really nice day on the beach I went to this really cool BBQ at Phoebe’s new place. I wasn’t really invited, Katrin invited me *g*, thanks for that! I met many people that I’ve not seen in a while and I got to know some more. We had a really good time! I addes 78 pictures to the Photo Album. Have a look!

Yes, okay okay, I did it. For the german speaking visitors I give in and offer the website in german now as well. I have to write all my posts twice, but that shouldn’t take that much longer, I can type using all my fingers (go and learn it!). It’s not as if I am writing books here.
You can either click on the other language offered below the title of a post or permanently set your preferred language via clicking on the flags in the menu bar on the right. Man, I am far too nice to you :)

Hey, before going to bed I decided to take a look at some new movies coming up. Did you know there is a new “King Kong” coming out in a month? I watched the trailers and they’re really promising, well, supposed you like movies like that! There is even a T-Rex in this one and some other dinosaurs!! When I saw the trailers I thought I was looking at Jurassic Park IV or something, click here to see what I mean! But why don’t you go and watch the trailers yourself. If you have a powerful computer and a fast internet connection you should watch the really high quality HD trailers!!!
Official King Kong site
For that, you need Quicktime 7, which I suppose you have, otherwise click the Quicktime icon on the left!

…means sitting inside and studying all the time. As usual instead of starting early enough I couldn’t motivate myself until the pressure was becoming too big to do justify doing other stuff (my lazyness is one of my biggest weaknesses, if not the biggest). Down here this effect is amplified by the fact that I’m in Australia meaning that there is other stuff to do and see. The amount to study is not muss less than it is in germany, I have 5 exams in 2 weeks… have some mercy will ya?!? Well, I’ll crunch through the stuff somehow by locking myself up and fighting the lazy parts of my brain. There is not much going to happen besides sitting inside my room, so don’t expect any entertaining stuff until the end of this. The fish’n chips on the right are great, you get them at a place 400m from here… that’s going to be my favourite study food :)
cya in a while!

After some days I found it way too boring to have the same image on top of this page all the time, so I made it random! Besides, I have far too many good pictures already, people need to see them… there is more in the photo album, if you’re not jealous enough yet! I took all of those images myself but of course I’m not showing off with the worst ones I took *g*. There are 20 randomized title-images at the moment. If you don’t want to hit the reload button a hundred times to see them all, follow this link.

Some weeks ago Apple announced the iPod Nano, the successor to the iPod Mini. Well, took me 2 days to get one and I sold my old 10GB one to one of my classmates. The new one is really small, it’s far smaller than the old one and far smaller than my phone (K750i). The size was the biggest selling point for me. You can easily take if for a run and carry it pretty much everywhere withouth noticing, the earplugs take up more space than the gadget itself. Battery life is fine for me (10 hours or more). Sound quality is great, as with all the iPods. here are more pictures

Some of you might now, that I’ve been working at Fremantle Hospital for nearly 10 weeks now. Now that I got the website up and running I’d like to write something about it. Doing that just came to my mind because I’m actually at work right now nothing to do for another 30minutes…
So, how did I get the job in the first place? Well, I’ve been added to tons of email lists at the physics department when I got to Perth and I get tons of job offer notifications that they collect. continued »

Yooo!… As usual I woke up (very!) early because dawn starts at 4:30, no kidding. Even though I have thick curtins it’s just too bright and I wake up. If I’m lazy I just hide under my pillow and fall asleep again but then it’ll be very hard to get up at a decent time. So what I do most of the times, I get up and go for a run along beautiful Swan river and Kings Park… lovely!
On the way back I pay “Barrett’s” a visit and get me some fresh buns.
